GUARDIAN (AGA)
--------------
Published by: Acid Software
Price: £9.99 (Game)
Requirements: A1200
Tested on: A1200 with 030/50Mhz 6megs
The Story so far....
Guardian is a fast and frantic 3D shoot'em up set in the far future. The
action takes place in a rapidly shrinking universe only a few light years
in diameter. Millions of life forms are battling desperately for
possession of the few remaining resources, while turning a blind eye to
the implications of the imminent Big Bang. You have been selected as a
'Guardian', one of an elite troop of pilots charged with the protection
of what is left of the human species. Your job is to repel the
relentless attacks of alien life forms on a series of populated planets.
Should you fail, the human species faces certain destruction. The
rewards of success, however are not so clear.....
Remember Defender? Well just imagine Defender in a real time 3D
environment and your close to imagining Guardian.
Guardian is, and make no bones about it an absolutely cracking 3D
shoot'em up. There are powerups, extra weapons, badies, big badies and
mother ships and all this in a 3D environment. Which brings me to speed,
yup we all know 3D games eat up processor time so I was amazed at the
speed this game runs at even on a standard 1200 it zips along.
There are various levels of detail that the display can be configured to.
So even total speed freaks will be happy. If you have a nice 030 chip in
your 1200 then your be in heaven.
So whats the game play like you scream.
Ok well the game starts off with the screen zooming into your ship you
then see this huge Mother Ship come down from the sky, so you zoom
towards it as you get closer a load of Dronoids drop out and the Mother
Ship takes off. Now these Dronoids main task is to destroy as many of
the Planets buildings as possible. So first off kill all the Dronoids as
the longer you leave them to roam you Planet the more damage they will
do. Also the more damage the Dronoids do the more reinforcements they
get. These reinforcements are manly ground attack vehicles and space
craft who's main goal in life is to blow you out of the sky! Once you
have killed all the Dronoids and any reinforcements that managed to
arrive the Mother Ship returns and you are sucked up inside it where you
have to battle it out.
After you defeat the Mother Ship you are moved onto the next level that
is more of the same, but with harder aliens.
It sounds repetitive and it is, but don't let that fool you. The game is
easy to play and this is what makes it such a hit. Once you start
playing it, it ends up being one of those games 'Just one more go'. You
won't be able to put it down and with Game selling it off at £9.99 you
would be mad to miss it.
